Ages 3-4: I take care of myself (approx. 30min)

Content of the lesson:

  • Feeling and exploring the body
  • Exercise
  • Reflecting on hygiene and health with Harold the Giraffe
  • Resting under the stars

Goals: The child

  • learns to name their body parts: skin, muscles, bones, heart.
  • understands, that the body needs food, drink, air, exercise and sleep.
  • knows how to take care of hygiene (i.e. washing, brushing their teeth, brushing their hair).

Age 5: All about me (approx. 30min)

Content of the lesson:

  • Exploring body and organs using a body vest
  • Break exercise
  • The importance of exercise and rest
  • Resting under the stars
  • Harold's song

 

Goals: The child

  • learns to name internal organs: heart, lungs, stomach, intestines, brain.
  • understands, that the body needs food, drink, air, exercise and sleep.
  • knows how to take care of hygiene (i.e. washing, brushing their teeth, brushing their hair).

Preschool: My amazing body (approx. 45min)

Content of the lesson:

  • Exploring body and organs using a body vest
  • Varied and healthy diet
  • Picnic
  • Harold's song

 

Goals: The child

  • knows, that food items can be divided into groups, and that a healthy diet consists of a variety of different food items.
  • understands, that the body needs food, drink, air, exercise and sleep.
  • learns to name body parts: heart, lungs, stomach, intestines, brain.

1st grade: Feelings (approx. 60min)

Content of the lesson:

  • Recognizing feelings
  • Feelings activity
  • Exploring the body using a body vest
  • Break exercise
  • Harold's song

Goals: The child

  • recognizes and knows how to name feelings (joy, sadness, anger).
  • learns to handle both positive and negative feelings.
  • understands, that the body needs food, drink, air, exercise and sleep.
  • learns to name body parts: heart, lungs, stomach, intestines, brain.

2nd grade: Getting to know the brain (approx. 60min)

Content of the lesson:

  • Exploring the body using Digi-Alma
  • Break exercise
  • Function and well-being of the brain
  • Journey to space

Goals: The child

  • understands what the brain does and knows how to take care of it.
  • understands, that the body needs food, drink, air, exercise and sleep.
  • learns to name body parts: heart, lungs, stomach, intestines, brain.
  • learns to understand what medicine is and what it does when we get sick.
  • understands that we are all different and everyone is valuable as they are (learning, skills, personality and feelings).

3rd grade: Uniqueness (approx. 75min)

Content of the lesson:

  • Uniqueness activity
  • Exploring the human body using Digi-Alma
  • Discussion about tobacco
  • Wellness bingo

 

Goals: The child

  • understands that everyone is unique and valuable.
  • understands that the body needs food, drink, oxygen, exercise and sleep.
  • learns functions of body parts: heart, lungs, stomach, intestines, brain.
  • understands the meaning of medicine and what it does when you fall ill.
  • learns that certain substances (nicotine and alcohol) change the function of the body.

4th grade: Friends (approx. 90min)

Content of the lesson:

  • What is a good friend like?
  • The Harold game
  • Discussion about substances (tobacco, alcohol, snuff, electronic cigarettes)
  • Comics about friendship

Goals: The child

  • understands that friends can influence your choices.
  • identifies factors that impact health and well-being, as well as harmful effects of substance use.
  • understands that certain substances change the function of the body.
  • can name things that enhance well-being or cause ill-being.

5th grade: Decisions (approx. 90min)

Content of the lesson:

  • Reflecting on factors that influence decision-making
  • “Tosiasia/ mielipide” –tehtävä

  • Influence of substances
  • Deepening knowledge of the body and its function
  • Discussion about substances and related legislation

Goals: The child

  • understands the meaning of independent decisions concerning health and the future.
  • recognizes factors that impact health and well-being, as well as harmful effects of substance use.
  • understands that certain substances change the function of the body.
  • knows the body's vital functions and understands how unhealthy and harmful things affect the body.
  • can name harmful substances in intoxicants.
  • understands substance-related legislation in Finland.

6th grade: Choices (approx. 90min)

Content of the lesson:

  • Percentage activity about substances
  • The Harold game
  • Discussion about substances and decision-making processes
  • Happiness activity

Goals: The child

  • understands how choices impact health and the future.
  • recognizes factors related to health and well-being, as well as harmful effects of substances.
  • understands that certain substances change the function of the body.
  • can name harmful substances in intoxicants.
  • realizes that the majority of young people do not use substances.
  • is aware of things that make a person feel good without harming the body.
  • understands financial choices made in the family.
